Community Engagement

The Black Fatherhood Project is a film and nonprofit organization established to engage communities across the United States and beyond on the issue of families and fatherhood. The nonprofit arm of the project engages parents, teens, mentors, and community members through film screening workshops on topics related to sustaining and strengthening the family unit through love, responsibility, and equity-seeking public policy, particularly in a Black American context but applicable to all people.

Portland Impact, dba Impact NW is the official fiscal sponsor of The Black Fatherhood Project nonprofit organization.

In February of 2013, The Black Fatherhood Project (BFP) will officially launch! The national launch will include:

  • Online premiere of the full 75-minute and a 30-minute version of the film on the BFP website, free of charge, with a goal of hitting a combined 100,000 views in the first month!
  • Over 100 screenings across the country, organized and hosted by YOU (with our help, of course)
  • Pre-release screenings for community leaders and media professionals
  • An exclusive T-shirt line celebrating Black fathers and families

We need your help! Will you take five minutes to make our launch a success by doing these three things?

Portland-Metro Pilot Project

The Portland-Metro Pilot Project of The Black Fatherhood Project (BFP) was a 12-month initiative to “test the waters” for a documentary film-based community engagement and empowerment plan. During the pilot project, BFP program feedback was collected and analyzed to inform the development a national community engagement and empowerment plan that has been thoughtfully tested and is evidentiary. Feedback was collected through written evaluations, video interviews, and self-reflections of workshop participants, program coordinators, and facilitators. The objective was to reach 400 parents, teens, community members, and philanthropists in the Portland, Oregon metro area from June 2011 – June 2012 (12 months) via film screening workshops.
